What is Menopause?
Every woman experiences menopause differently, with different impressions and feelings. Menopause is the ending of the monthly cycle and fertility. Menopause has happened when the woman has had her last period. This does not happen suddenly. It usually starts with the periods getting irregular. This means you can only tell with hindsight when it has definitely happened. It is not until a woman has not had a period for 12 months that she can know for sure menopause is over.
On average, women experience menopause sometime around 51 years of age, although it is often a few years earlier or later.
Menopause happens because the ovaries stop releasing eggs. The ovaries also produce hormones, so a change in the ovaries affects the balance of hormones in the body. This can cause a variety of symptoms, and it can take the body a while to adjust to the changing hormones.
Symptoms of Menopause
Symptoms vary from woman to woman. They may last 5 or more years. Some women may have worse symptoms than others. Symptoms of surgical menopause can be more severe and start more suddenly.
The first thing you may notice is that your periods start to change. They might occur more often or less often. Some women might get their period every 3 weeks. This might last for 1 - 3 years before the periods completely stop.
Common symptoms of menopause include:
- Menstrual periods that occur less often and eventually stop
- Heart pounding or racing
- Hot flashes, usually worst during the first 1 - 2 years
- Night sweats
- Skin flushing
- Sleeping problems (insomnia)
Other symptoms of menopause may include:
- Decreased interest in sex, possibly decreased response to sexual stimulation
- Forgetfulness (in some women)
- Headaches
- Mood swings including irritability, depression, and anxiety
- Urine leakage
- Vaginal dryness and painful sexual intercourse
- Vaginal infections
- Joint aches and pains
- Irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
Menopause and Hormone Balance
Menopause is completely natural and marks the end of fertility for a woman but it is too often accompanied by severely disruptive symptoms.
When women have menopausal symptoms, they are suffering from hormone imbalances. Many symptoms of menopause occur as a result of the imbalance and loss of the sex hormones: estrogen, progesterone and testosterone as well as thyroid. These hormones work together to determine our wellbeing, life perspective, weight, sexuality, mood, sleep, ability to focus. Hormonal balance can also effect how much we enjoy life, how we age and how long we live.
Common symptoms of hormonal imbalance may include weight gain, restlessness, decreased memory, loss of libido, pruritus, rashes, erythema, insomnia, vaginal dryness, recurrent urninary tract infections, joint pains, urinary incontinence, hot flashes and mood swings, among others.
Menopause Treatment
The good news is that Camelback Health Care can help treat the symptoms of menopause and restore a woman’s hormone balance. The health care providers at Camelback Health Care have been trained by the prestigious Bioidentical Hormone Initiative to provide Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy to women suffering from the negative symptoms of menopause. Bioidentical hormones, also known as natural hormones, are safe and effective, FDA approved class of medications that have been on the market for over 40 years. They are called natural hormones and are referred to as bioidentical because their chemical formulas closely resemble that of the steroid sex hormones (estrogen, estriol, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone and cortisol) produced naturally by our human bodies. Bioidenitical hormones act gentle to treat the root cause of hormone imbalances, deficiencies, and their attendant symptoms by mimicking the action of the human body’s own hormones. Bioidentical hormones can safely and effectively reduce or eliminate the symptoms of menopause like hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, depression, mood swings, anxiety, palpitations, loss of libido, irritability, recurrent urinary tract infections, joint pains, foggy thinking and fatigue.
